Getting Recent Graduates on Track

Dear Parents of Recent Grads or Soon-to-be Grads,

College graduation signifies the end of a newly discovered independence and it may come with feelings of uncertainty or fear about what’s ahead. Let’s face it, your advice isn’t always well received and it’s a time when emotions can run high . cf_readinessGrad_certDesign_v01a

Did You Know  . . . A 2013 study by the Bureau of Labor Statistics stated that “roughly 13% of recent college graduates are unemployed and an additional 44% take jobs they are over-qualified for”?

In a stagnant economy, students and grads need to present themselves professionally, capitalize on their skill sets and learn how to tell their stories in a compelling way to get hired.  As a parent of a recent grad, chances are this is a time with some degree of worry and anxiety.  The future is the great unknown and times are tough out there. The rules and tools required for a job search have completely changed, but no need to fear.  We have put together a nice tidy package to help get your recent grads on their way.

Careerfolk is offering a Career Readiness Package specifically for students or recent grads (up to 5 years out of college).  So, please read on about what we’re offering.

We use a unique approach with recent grads (or current students searching for internships) that focus on developing the following skill sets:

  • Building rapport to foster dialogue
  • Putting tangible tools in their job search toolbox so they have some concrete steps to take
  • Helping them tell their story and look for ways to enhance a story that is sparse
  • Harnessing the power of LinkedIn, Twitter and even Facebook.
  • Helping them learn how to grow their network and cultivate relationships with key people
  • Taking the guesswork out of writing all the job search correspondence they need

All of these skills will increase their confidence in their job search and give them reliable, concrete information they can use to move forward and avoid paralysis by fear.

Your graduate will walk away after four (5) one-on-one coaching sessions with the following:

It’s not easy right now for recent grads, but there are plenty of success stories.  Our Career Readiness Package will fill your grad’s job search toolbox with what they need to become another success story.

Terms of Engagement: Sessions are 1 hour each to be held either in person (at our Stamford, CT office) or virtually via Careerfolk Online video/tele conferencing. All sessions are to be used within a 60-day period. Additional sessions can be purchased on an as needed basis at $150 per hour

Meet the Coach: Tava Auslan is Careerfolk’s College Graduate Career Coach. After earning her MSEd. in Counseling, she began her career with Donna at The New School Career Services Center in 2002 working with students and graduates pursuing diverse careers.  Additionally, Tava is an adjunct professor of dance at Norwalk Community College where she offers an effective blend of challenge and support to her students.  A 12 year immersion into higher education has yielded a unique understanding of the various needs and barriers that college students face today.  An astute writer, Tava translates this into crafting resumes that tell a compelling story, even when the stories are just beginning to unfold.
